A 43-year-old woman died after she was trapped between a manually operated lift and its entrance at an apartment complex in Chandanagar on Tuesday morning. Police have registered a case based on a complaint alleging negligence during lift maintenance work.According to the complaint lodged by her husband, Dhadi Srinivas, he and his wife, Anasuya, had gone to Chatwal Mansion Apartment in Annapurna Enclave at around 11 a.m. to visit his maternal uncle, who was recuperating from a head injury. Srinivas said that he was already in the lift and and his wife was stepping inside when it suddenly started moving upwards before the doors had fully closed. Anasuya was trapped between the lift and the entrance, suffering grievous injuries to her waist and other parts of her body before losing consciousness.Residents rushed to the scene after hearing her cries for help and pulled her out. She was taken to a private hospital in Chandanagar, where doctors declared her dead. She was later shifted to another private hospital in Nizampet.In his complaint, Srinivas alleged that lift repair work was underway at the time of the incident and claimed that the maintenance technician, Anil Kumar, had carried out the work without disconnecting the main power supply or placing warning signs to alert residents.He also accused apartment association members Ram Reddy, Yogender and Venkat Reddy, along with the owner of the lift maintenance company, of failing to ensure residents’ safety. He sought legal action against all those responsible, alleging that their negligence led to his wife’s death.Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
