The bodies of two men who were swept away by swollen rivers in Kannur during the recent heavy rain were recovered on Tuesday (August 4) after a three-day search operation.The body of V.H. Hanifa, who went missing after being swept away by the Kanhirapuzha river at Irrity, was found around 200 metres downstream of the Kanhirapuzha bridge. Police and Revenue officials completed the inquest before shifting the body to the Thalassery General Hospital for post-mortem.The body of R. Rajesh, a native of Kalliyoor in Thiruvananthapuram, was recovered around noon on Tuesday from an islet in the Tejaswini river near Meenthuli.Rajesh, a swimming instructor, had gone missing while attempting to rescue a 61-year-old farmer, Benny, who was stranded on an islet after flash floods triggered by heavy rain and a landslide in the Karnataka forest sent flood waters into the river on Saturday (August 1).While escorting Benny across the river, with rescuers following behind, Rajesh lost his grip on the rope and was reportedly swept away by the strong currents.
