The Rachakonda narcotic police of EAGLE Force busted an inter-district alprazolam trafficking network and apprehended six accused persons at Rukmini Enclave in Macha Bollaram, on the fringes of Hyderabad. The accused were supplying the psychotropic drug to toddy sellers to lace the drinks.Police said some of the accused are engaged in the real estate business, some own toddy compounds and others run food kiosks. Acting on specific intelligence, the EAGLE Force conducted surveillance near Rukmini Enclave at about 3.15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4. A Maruti Brezza car bearing registration no. TS07FS5191 arrived at the location and shortly thereafter four persons emerged from a nearby apartment carrying polythene packets suspected to contain the banned substance, and boarded the vehicle, in which two others were waiting.After confirming that all the suspects had assembled, the police team surrounded the vehicle and apprehended all six accused persons, apart from seizing 1.189 kilograms of alprazolam from them.During the course of interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were procuring the psychotropic substance in bulk from source suppliers and stored it at secure locations before supplying it to toddy compounds and toddy shop operators.Preliminary investigation revealed possible involvement of additional suppliers, financiers and other members of the organised trafficking network, who are absconding, the police said.
