—Announced, not confirmed. Peru’s interim president, José María Balcázar, has said Pope Leo XIV will visit in the first half of November 2026; the Vatican has not yet officially confirmed the trip.
—First since 2018. It would be the first papal visit to Peru since Pope Francis travelled there in January 2018.
—Personal return. Leo XIV, born Robert Prevost in Chicago, served as bishop of Chiclayo from 2015 to 2023 and is a naturalized Peruvian citizen, making the visit a return to what he has called his beloved diocese.
