The head coach of reigning champions National Chengchi University (NCCU) said the Asian University Basketball League (AUBL) remained the strongest college tournament they had ever taken part in after securing a quarter-final berth on Tuesday.Playing against tournament debutants National University of Mongolia, NCCU from Taiwan dominated almost from the start before cruising to an 83-51 win at Binjiang Gymnasium. They have now won both their group matches, after also beating mainland side Shanghai Jiao Tong University last night.NCCU, who won their sixth straight local title this year, have yet to lose a match in seven AUBL appearances over two years.“The intensity of this competition is very high; it’s probably the most intense competition we’ve ever seen,” said NCCU head coach Fan Keng-hsiang. “We will continue to try achieving great results this year, but we’ll just stay calm.“We’ve encouraged the players not to think about our winning streaks or anything like that.
