PalmPay, the African fintech backed by Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek, is exploring an initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong as it seeks fresh capital to improve its expansion across emerging markets.
The company is working with advisers on a potential listing, although discussions remain at an early stage and details including the size and timing of the offering have yet to be finalised. The plans could still change depending on market conditions and regulatory approvals.
A Hong Kong listing would mark a significant milestone for PalmPay, which has grown from a Nigerian mobile payments startup into a broader digital financial services platform operating across Africa and parts of Asia.
This move follows a series of strategic steps by the fintech to strengthen its international presence. Earlier this year, PalmPay signed an agreement with Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES), which makes the city the base for its global operations as it expands beyond Africa.
The company said Hong Kong would serve as a hub for building cross-border financial infrastructure linking African and Asian markets.
