US power company Clearway has canceled plans to develop a data center and natural gas power plant on federal land in Nevada.

First reported by Heat Map, the developer had requested that the US Bureau of Land Management swap a 2021 application for a 500MW solar project for a data center and a colocated natural gas facility. According to reporting at the time, Clearway had said that the decision was the result of a shift in its internal development priorities and intended “to better align with the goals of our Administration.”
However, following the revelation, Clearway contacted Heat Map to inform them that they were now canceling the plans, after deciding that it was not the correct decision for their business.
“Since our initial filing, we’ve evaluated how to make the best use of this public land in a way that serves its intended purpose: the public interest. As a clean energy developer and operator, our focus in Nevada remains solar and battery storage,” Clearway said in a statement to Heat Map. “We are in the process of amending our application to reflect the state’s growing demand for low-cost, reliable energy.”
