Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says she is ready for “round two” of attempts to attack her by calling her a “stinking coolie”, when this year’s Independence Day celebrations take place on August 31.Over the weekend, hecklers booed Minister of Culture and Community Development Michelle Benjamin during African Emancipation Day celebrations in Port of Spain.The Prime Minister came to her defence and accused the Opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) of being responsible for the incident.Yesterday, Persad-Bissessar issued a message to the PNM, saying, “Cheer up PNM, I eagerly look forward to round two of ‘curse Kamla the stinking coolie’ on Independence Day. Until then the fight against the drug trade continues.”She claimed that the PNM, the local drug mafia and their supporters’ grand political strategy to “curse Kamla the stinking coolie” had failed because she did not attend the Emancipation Day celebrations at the Emancipation Village in the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain last Saturday.Persad-Bissessar said the “big plan” was for political supporters to call her a “stinking coolie” during the celebrations.“Unfortunately, they are now very sad that they didn’t get the opportunity. So sorry to disappoint the PNM and local drug mafia but cheer up there will always be another opportunity to disparage Afro and Indo Trinidadians who support the UNC,” she said.She added, “PNM MPs and supporters got up early, their hearts and minds full of hatred and racism, got dressed and went down to Port of Spain in the hot sun to curse Kamla the stinking coolie and then their plan buss.”The Prime Minister said this was the example PNM MPs and supporters were setting for younger generations by denigrating and desecrating Emancipation Day.She concluded, “I eagerly look forward to round two...on Independence Day. Until then the fight against the drug trade continues.”The Prime Minister also responded by WhatsApp to questions about comments made by Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles.She noted that Beckles holds news conferences and makes daily statements but never held a media briefing to discuss more than 5,000 murders, 8,000 rapes or more than 124,000 crimes.
