Alibaba unveiled its Qwen3.8-Max AI model on Monday, ahead of a planned release next week, with benchmarks showing it delivered performance comparable to releases from Anthropic.
It is the latest open-weight model to narrow the performance gap with Silicon Valley releases, after recent models from DeepSeek, Moonshot AI and Zhipu AI, also known as Z.ai.
Qwen3.8-Max has 2.4 trillion parameters, an indicator of a model’s capabilities, making it China’s second largest after Moonshot’s Kimi K3 with 2.8 trillion parameters.
