The eThekwini Municipality’s Finance Committee has requested a report on the transactions completed between the municipality and the South African Post Office (SAPO) for the past six months.
The committee requested the probe after being presented with the public tender awards for the month ending June 30, 2026, in which R434 million worth of tenders were issued.
Highlighted in the list of tenders was the City Integrity and Investigation Directorate (CIID) purchase of software for R31 million. According to July’s council report, an enquiry was made regarding the reasons for and benefits of procuring Forensic Investigation Case Management Software, including configuration, licensing, maintenance and support for 36 months.
The report mentioned a slow pace in finalising CIID investigations; however, the municipality procured a system at what was viewed as an exorbitant amount.
