More than 41 million Americans have served in the military. For the first time, many of their names are part of a new monument on the National Mall, right in front of the Lincoln Memorial.The temporary National Military Monument, funded by USAA, opened this week as part of America’s 250th birthday celebrations.
The installation features two digital screens displaying the names of service members from available public records. Visitors can search for veterans and help add service records. People can also check whether they or their loved ones are on the monument or add a service member through the website.
