U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that, as part of the ongoing maritime blockade on Iran, the number of commercial vessels rerouted has reached 44. The military command also stated that it has disabled two ships and seized and inspected two others. These figures come one day after CENTCOM reported the rerouting of 35 commercial vessels.
In a post published on the social media platform X on Monday, August 3, CENTCOM wrote that U.S. forces continue to enforce the blockade on Iran “strictly.” The command also released an audio recording of U.S. forces warning vessels to comply with orders issued under the blockade framework.
According to CENTCOM, as of August 3, a total of 44 commercial ships had been rerouted, two ships had been disabled, and two others had been seized and searched.
The maritime blockade on Iran was initiated on the evening of July 14 following orders from U.S. President Donald Trump to resume operations. Trump issued the directive after attacks on several vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Hours earlier, Trump referenced the blockade in a post on Truth Social, claiming that the Strait of Hormuz is “completely” under U.S. Navy control and that no ships or cargo will reach Iran without Washington’s consent.
