Telegram briefly vanished from Apple’s App Store. The messaging app disappeared from the iOS store for many users around the world on Monday, and by Tuesday Telegram said it had been restored.
Apple has not publicly explained the removal, and Telegram said little beyond confirming its return. For a service with more than a billion users, even a few hours off the world’s most lucrative app store is a jolt.
What is confirmed is narrow. The app went missing from the iPhone and iPad App Store in multiple regions while remaining available on the Mac store and on Google Play, and reporting on the cause was still unsettled as it returned.
Several outlets linked the takedown to child-safety content, the category that has forced app-store removals before, though neither Apple nor Telegram confirmed a reason. Until one of them says more, the specific trigger stays reported rather than established.
There is a clear precedent. Apple pulled Telegram and Telegram X from the store in 2018 over inappropriate content, restoring them within days once the company added protections.
