With the 2027 Cricket World Cup drawing nearer, co-hosts Namibia are in serious danger of missing out on their own tournament.
Unlike in soccer, hosting a Cricket World Cup does not guarantee automatic entry unless the host country is an ICC Full Member. Because Namibia does not hold Full Member status, they are required to earn their spot through the standard qualification process.
This means Namibia could end up watching from the sidelines when the tournament begins in October next year, despite being one of the three co-host nations alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Under ICC rules, automatic qualification goes to South Africa and Zimbabwe as Full Member hosts, alongside the top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings. The remaining spots are decided through the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, running from 2023 to January 2027, where only the top four teams earn direct passage.
