August 4, 2026 — 9:30amCourt of Appeal judge Justice Thomas Bradley will become Queensland’s next governor, succeeding Dr Jeannette Young from November 1.Queensland Premier David Crisafulli made the announcement on Tuesday morning, noting that King Charles had given his approval for Bradley to be appointed as the state’s 28th governor.Queensland Court of Appeal judge Justice Thomas Bradley will be appointed Queensland’s new govenor.Matt DennienBradley was born in Cairns, went to school in Brisbane, and graduated from the University of Queensland with a law degree in 1987. He was admitted as a barrister in 2000.His practice involved commercial disputes, including economic regulation, competition, energy and resources and construction.Three years after becoming a barrister, Bradley was appointed Queen’s Counsel, a title held by senior, highly experienced barristers.Bradley was a sitting judge of the Supreme Court, and served on the Supreme Court Library Legal Heritage Subcommittee. He was the first Queensland-based ambassador for the Pinnacle Foundation, an LGBTQIA+ education charity.The Crisafulli government appointed Bradley to the Court of Appeal in March last year, citing his extensive philanthropic efforts, and his previous work in academia.On Tuesday, the premier noted Bradley’s “distinguished legal career in service of our state”.“Born in far north Queensland, Justice Bradley understands the unique challenges of our decentralised state and will help unify Queenslanders under our common experiences,” Crisafulli said.“As he has during his career, he will help shine a light on the important work of Queenslanders and communities.”Bradley said he looked forward to meeting and advocating for a diverse range of Queenslanders in the role.Start the day with a summary of the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
