Robert Kaliňák defends meeting with charged businessman Norbert Bödör, saying their encounter in Serbia was ordinary.
Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák and businessman Norbert Bödör, who is facing charges in several high-profile cases including the Očistec (Purgatory) investigation, attended a UFC Fight Night event in Belgrade, Serbia, over the weekend.
Footage obtained by the SME daily shows the two men sitting side by side in the arena, talking and laughing during the tournament. The video was recorded by a Slovak spectator who attended the event.
The presence of the two men drew attention because of Bödör’s legal troubles and his long-reported connections to figures close to the ruling Smer party. Kaliňák, a senior Smer politician, confirmed that he attended the MMA event and that he sat next to Bödör.
The minister rejected suggestions that they had travelled to Serbia together or that Bödör had invited him.
