For years, rival evaluators wondered how his arsenal would play if he could escape from Coors Field. Now the rest of the industry will get a chance to see just that.In 34 games this year, he’s 9-2 with a 3.61 ERA across 52 1/3 innings with 46 strikeouts and just 17 walks.
He reached the majors as a 22-year-old in 2017, part of a homegrown rotation that included Jon Gray, Kyle Freeland and Germán Márquez. All suffered the cruelties that have generally been inflicted on Rockies pitchers in the franchise’s short but painful history. Senzatela has been beset by injuries for much of his career. He suffered a torn ACL in 2022 and underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024. His ERA ballooned to 6.65 in 30 outings during the misery of Colorado’s 2025 season.Heading into 2026, the newly installed front office of Paul DePodesta committed to using Senzatela as a reliever, hoping to maximize his value. Senzatela’s fastball has jumped about two ticks. He tends to attack hitters with 97-mph four-seamers, 96-mph sinkers and 92-mph cutters. His changeup also provides a weapon to counteract left-handed hitters.Senzatela is making $12 million in 2026 and had a $14 million team option for 2027.This story will be updated.
