Somehow, I’m still not sick of sandals. Over the past few months, in between lusting over wedges, searching for walkable mules, and rounding up the best sandals we’ve written about under $150, I became curious about (and mostly suspicious of) jelly flip-flops, which have only gotten more popular this summer. As my colleague Arielle Avila asked last year when searching for jelly flats: Could a plastic shoe really be comfortable? I couldn’t imagine them ever being something I’d spend 20,000 steps in the way I do in leather or even $5 rubber styles. They sound like my literal footwear nightmare: stiff plastic digging into sweaty skin plus slippery soles that practically invite twisted ankles. But they look beautiful, and I’d happily wear them if I could find a non-treacherous pair.
