Following a fire incident at an sago factory at Sathasivapuram in Attur on Sunday, officials on Monday ordered suspension of its operation. The fire broke out at the factory, reportedly owing to short-circuit, on Sunday evening and spread to a room where chlorine had been dumped. When workers tried to extinguish the fire in the room, they experienced breathing difficulty and some fainted.The Attur Fire and Rescue Service personnel rescued nine workers and extinguished the fire. During the operation, a firefighter, too, suffered breathing difficulty. In total, 10 people were hospitalised. The Attur rural police also registered a case.On Monday, officials from the Revenue Department, Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health; Fire and Rescue Services; and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board visited the factory.The officials instructed the management not to operate the factory until further orders.
