Anthropic has made Claude available with in-country inference in India via Amazon Bedrock, AWS’ platform for building generative AI applications, allowing requests to be processed on local servers. As per Anthropic, India is one of the largest markets for Claude, with the local developer community doing technically complex AI work. A top ask from organisations has been for options to access Claude locally. The AI-giant explained that running Claude inferencing in-country gives Indian organisations the certainty to serve customers in highly regulated verticals such as banks, insurers, and public and government agencies.“Bringing Claude inference to India is a turning point for enterprise AI in this country,” said Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India, Anthropic. “India’s banks, insurers, telecoms, public and government agencies steward the data of a billion people. When that data can stay in India, AI moves from pilots into the systems that matter most. Adding in-country inference marks a significant step forward in what we are building here — a growing local team, strong performance in Indian languages, and partnerships that put this technology to work for India,” she added.Meanwhile, Sandeep Dutta, President, AWS India and South Asia, said that with Anthropic’s Claude now available for in-country inferencing through Amazon Bedrock, institutions from banks to government agencies can deploy it on the same trusted infrastructure they already run their most critical workloads on, unlocking new possibilities in citizen services and digital transformation. In February, Anthropic opened its Bengaluru office, since when its India team has grown, providing applied AI expertise to enterprises, digital natives, and start-ups building on Claude. Large enterprises are deploying Claude across their organisations. For instance, TCS is equipping 50,000 associates with Claude and building AI talent through TCS iON; Infosys is combining Claude with Infosys Topaz and setting up a dedicated Anthropic Center of Excellence; Cognizant uses Claude across manufacturing, life sciences, insurance, and other client work; and LTM & LTTS are embedding Claude and Claude Code into LTM’s BlueVerse AI Delivery Fabric and LTTS’s engineering intelligence platforms. Even digital natives are embedding Claude into everyday products. Swiggy has made flagship services reachable through MCP, with Instamart now the first quick-commerce service where customers can browse and buy more than 40,000 products by natural-language prompt, and Zoho helps customers make more intelligent decisions with Claude models.Anthropic also has partnerships with State governments, public health programs, and agencies that serve citizens directly, involving personal data that cannot leave the country. In-country inference opens the door to deeper work here. Anthropic also noted that Indian defenders are using Claude to find and patch weaknesses to raise the security baseline for everyone. The Data Security Council of India runs a Claude-powered testing sandbox, giving members across critical sectors a shared environment to test codebases and supply chains. Open-source infrastructure, often maintained by small teams where vulnerabilities can go undetected for years, is getting Claude’s help too: MOSIP, the platform underpinning national digital ID systems for more than 200 million people, and OpenG2P, which delivers citizen benefits globally, have made Claude integral to how code enters their platforms. “Six months after signing the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments, we are making progress, including a company-wide effort to improve Claude’s performance in India’s most widely spoken languages. In a pilot earlier this year, Karya worked with native speakers and domain experts to evaluate Claude models across Indian languages in agriculture use cases, showing how community feedback can catch issues automated evaluations miss. We will build on these findings to improve our models across the languages and contexts that matter for India,” it said in the company blog. When Anthropic launched the Claude Partner Network globally in March 2026, India had some of the highest registration numbers globally. This week, in Bengaluru, Anthropic is holding its first Claude Certification for Partners, aiming to certify 5,000 people.Published on August 3, 2026
