EA Sports has given players a fresh glimpse at what to expect from EA FC 27 when it lands later this year, including one major new Ultimate Team addition and the sweeping changes to existing features17:09, 03 Aug 2026Updated 17:09, 03 Aug 2026Football fans have been given a closer look at how Ultimate Team will evolve in EA FC 27, and it's fair to say that there are some big changes. The next EA Sports football title includes a major new FUT feature and massive updates to Squad Building Challenges, Evolutions and rewards throughout the next football season.Set for release on Friday, September 25, EA FC 27 will introduce overhauls to a number of Ultimate Team mechanics as well as the new FUT Gallery feature. After the best part of a decade of painstakingly crafting squads to exchange for rewards based on chemistry, league, nation or rating requirements, players will face a totally new SBC interface when EA FC 27 launches. On top of that, there are major updates to Evolutions, including the ability to preview chains of Evolutions to better plan them out, and changes to rewards. Players will soon be getting more immediate rewards after completing a match, as opposed to the more weekly-based approach seen in EA FC 26 campaigns. There are also new Token Store additions, and plenty more learn. Here's what we know about the changes to SBCs, Evolutions and the new FUT Gallery feature.EA FC 27 Squad Building Challenge changesInstead of now dropping players into on-pitch positions - whether they need to be in the right ones or not - players choose eligible player items from their club and submit them towards a target score. Each item contributes to the progress bar based on overall rating (OVR) and rarity. This new "streamlined" approach to SBCs means that some might only require a total score with a minimum rating per item.On top of that, the streamlined SBCs in EA FC 27 do away with the tedious work of managing duplicate cards. Instead of being restricted to one version of a player item per SBC, EA FC 27's new system allows players to submit multiple copies of the exact same item.Partial progress is also being introduced, which allows players to submit some of their player items, save their progress, and then return to complete the SBC once more cards have been collected. While traditional SBC formats will still exist for challenge SBCs, the majority of player and upgrade releases will come under the new format.EA FC 27 FUT Evolutions pathways, chains and previewsPlayers have been relying on third party websites to plan their Evolutions in FUT since they were introduced in EA FC 24. The feature allows EA FC gamers to upgrade specific player items, and many chain different Evolutions to craft a unique player item that stays in their squads for months. However, in EA FC 27, two new upgrades to the system are aimed at giving FUT players clearer planning tools and better choice. One, Pathways, offer branching upgrades instead of mandatory routes in every Evolution.Certain Evolutions will offer players to make a tactical choice while evolving a player item. For example, differing paths on the same Evolution might upgrade opposing stats like dribbling and defending. The traditional linear Evolutions will coexist with the new Pathways, but a new feature gives gamers further insight. The Evolution Chain Preview allows players to see which Evolutions a player item is eligible for once they go through the first Evolution. The PlayStyle Lab will also return in EA FC 27, changing slightly so players no longer need to evolve an item's PlayStyles from scratch. There will also be various requirements for PlayStyles, meaning there may be more time or effort needed to unlock certain PlaySyles.FUT Gallery - EA FC 27's new feature explainedThe newest feature EA Sports is introducing in Ultimate Team is the FUT Gallery - which acts a little like a stickerbook collection feature. FUT players can use the Gallery to submit most of the player items they pick up and exchange them for rewards. The Gallery is organised into Gallery Sets, themed on things like Nations, Leagues, Clubs and Campaigns. There are also custom sets to highlight favourite players - these sets and cards are visually showcased as 3D objects in an interactive environment called the Gallery Hub.Each completed set receives a grade based on the cumulative score of its cards. Higher OVR ratings and special item types yield higher scores.Completing each set and upgrading them increases a player's overall FUT Gallery level. Progressing thise unlocks milestone rewards, cosmetics, Gallery Tokens - a new version of the Token Store will be created for players to spend these in - and rare Holographic items. These Holographic items are a rarer version of special items. When an eligible special item is available in a pack, the Holographic version might also be available, and these contribute to a higher score in Gallery Sets.Article continues belowHolographic Items can still be used in gameplay, although their attributes are identical to the original special item. They come in Regular Holographic and Pristine Holographic rarities, which include an even more premium appearance.
