Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt heavily criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s grocery store ID plan, calling him a “disingenuous lying buffoon.”“Racist Commie Mamdani is going to make you show ID in his markets. You want your government-subsidized arugula? Show your papers! Ask for ID to vote? Bigot!!! Are you starting to realize what disingenuous lying buffoons these commies are?” Pratt wrote in a post on X.

Pratt’s comments come after Mamdani’s press conference last week, in which he detailed his municipal grocery store plan for New York City. Mamdani and economic development officials addressed how they planned to manage access to the 30%-discounted staple goods, including bread, cheese, produce, and other essential grocery items.

When questioned about preventing reselling or hoarding, Mamdani said, “Our [request for proposal] makes it very clear that this is a program for New Yorkers to be able to put food on the table, not a program for people to be able to make a quick buck through reselling.” NYC Economic Development Corporation interim chief Jeanny Pak noted the implementation of a “library card-esque” identification system.
