The Judiciary of the Islamic Republic’s official news agency, Mizan, announced the execution of two prisoners, Omid Behzad and Pourya Safvat, on charges of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel by transmitting images of the Islamic Republic’s security and military installations.
Mizan, the official organ of the Judiciary, reported that the two prisoners were executed early on Monday morning, August 3.
The Islamic Republic’s Judiciary claimed that during the joint US-Israeli strikes against Iran—referred to by Islamic Republic officials as the “Ramadan War” and the “12-Day War” - Omid Behzad and Pourya Safvat helped Israel achieve its objectives by sending coordinates, photographs, and intelligence about military and security centres to Mossad officers and communication channels affiliated with the organisation.
The Judiciary’s reference to “communication channels affiliated with this organisation” appears to point to certain overseas satellite and media networks, in an attempt by the Islamic Republic to instil fear among Iranians and prevent them from contacting these networks.
The Judiciary claimed in part of its statement that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organisation identified the two individuals by monitoring the behaviour of overseas media outlets and news channels, as well as the style of submitted videos.
