A 38-year-old farmer reportedly ended his life due to prolonged crop loss and mounting debts in Gaukanapalli village of Nambulapulakunta mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district on Sunday night.The deceased, Repana Venkatesh, cultivated groundnuts on his 8.5 acres, but the crop reportedly withered due to inadequate rainfall, leaving him in acute financial distress. Family members said that he was unable to mobilise funds to drill another borewell and had become increasingly depressed over his worsening debt burden.Ramanujulamma, the deceased’s wife, said that repeated agricultural setbacks had allegedly pushed him into despair. Venkatesh is survived by his wife, two sons, one of whom is undergoing treatment for mental health issues, and his bedridden father. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
