The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), through its Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme, has partnered with pan-African technology company Gebeya to launch a $50,000 Create-thon aimed at helping African creators overcome funding and technology gaps in the creative industry.
The CANEX Create-thon 2026 will bring together musicians, filmmakers, storytellers, game developers and other creative builders to develop original projects across music, video and gaming.
The initiative will provide participants with digital tools, computing resources, technical support and prize funding to turn their creative ideas into working prototypes or completed projects.
The four-day creation sprint is scheduled to take place from August 20 to 24, 2026, with participants gaining access to Gebeya’s Dala Studio platform and support from between 30 and 40 ambassadors drawn from its community network.
Temwa Gondwe, director, Creatives and Diaspora at Afreximbank, said African creators had digital talent and visibility but often lacked the financial backing and access to digital tools required to grow their trade.
