The eight-part series first aired last year and follows two friends who find themselves accidentally entangled in a murder mystery.13:19, 03 Aug 2026Updated 13:22, 03 Aug 2026There's going to be a new comedy crime drama for BBC fans to binge.‌This month, BBC viewers will get to see a hilarious whodunnit as the Australian eight-part series He Had It Coming has been acquired by the broadcaster.‌Starring the likes of Lydia West, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Liv Hewson, and Cody Simpson, it follows two friends who find themselves tangled up in a murder mystery.‌Actress Lydia takes on the role of an awkward British scholarship student called Elise who quickly becomes friends with fashion influencer Barbara [Liu Bordizzo].Following a string of wrongdoing by men, both girls decide to take a stand, with Barbara spearheading an activist art project in the dead of night.‌After having too much to drink, the pair defaced a statue of the university's male founder in the university's quadrangle. However, things quickly take an unexpected turn.A synopsis reads: "When the girls wake to discover that the university's star athlete [Simpson] has been murdered and displayed at the foot of their political statement, they must urgently erase all ties to the crime."With Detective Shepherd [Hewson] following the breadcrumbs they have been trying to sweep up, Barbara and Elise need to find the real culprit amid rising gender tensions on campus and a growing body count."‌The series, which was created and written by Gretel Vella and Craig Anderson, is directed by Rachel House and Anne Renton, who has also worked on The Good Doctor and The Bold Type.Nick Lee, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: "He Had it Coming is a fun, pacey campus whodunnit with a vibrant poke into gender politics.
