Elder Scrolls IV OblivionCredit: NintendoThe day Nintendo Switch and Elder Scrolls fans have been waiting for is almost here. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered might be the version from the iconic series that scratches every itch Switch fans have to scratch. Let's talk video games.Key Facts at a GlanceGame: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion RemasteredPlatform: Nintendo Switch 2Release date: Tuesday, August 11, 2026Standard digital: $49.99Physical Deluxe: $59.99Performance: 900p handheld, 1080p docked, 30fps in both, with DLSSIncluded in every edition: Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine and all DLC packsNot included: Game Pass access, cross-buy, cross-platform save transferWhen Does Oblivion Remastered Release On Switch 2?August 11 is the day. Bethesda confirmed the date on June 30 with a live-action trailer built around the Adoring Fan, the NPC who trails Grand Champions through the original game. After the February announcement at Nintendo Partner Showcase, the excitement skyrocketed. This marks the first time any version of Elder Scrolls IV has appeared on a Nintendo console. We thought we might see it after Skyrim Anniversary Edition landed late last year, and then there was more hope for major titles like this one when Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle hit stores early in 2026.The wait traces to timing. Oblivion Remastered shadow-dropped on April 22, 2025, roughly a month before Switch 2 reached shelves.Play Puzzles & Games on ForbesHow Much Does Oblivion Remastered Cost On Switch 2?The digital Standard Edition is $49.99. The physical Deluxe Edition is $59.99. Pre-orders are live on the Nintendo eShop and at major retailers. If you’re already sold, you can head there now to secure your digital or physical copy.Every edition carries the same base content: the full game, both story expansions in Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, plus Fighter's Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Vile Lair, Mehrune's Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard's Tower, The Orrery and the Horse Armor Pack. The Deluxe adds Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon armor, weapons and horse armor sets through a download code. There are at least two things worth knowing before buying — this lands before my 10 Things You Should Know hit later this month. This is not cross-buy, so owning it elsewhere does not carry over, and save files do not transfer between platforms. The Xbox and PC versions remain on Game Pass. The Switch 2 version does not.Is The Full Game On The Cartridge?Yes, and that is the detail most of the coverage led with and it especially lands harder considering the controversy around Sony phasing hard copies out. The physical Deluxe ships as a standard Switch 2 cartridge rather than a Game-Key Card, meaning it runs without a mandatory download of the base game. Only the Deluxe bonus content and the smaller DLC packs need to be pulled down. That decision runs against the direction most third-party Switch 2 releases have gone, and it is the clearest signal Bethesda wanted this one treated as a real port rather than a licensing shell. How Does Oblivion Remastered Run On Switch 2?Bethesda's targets are 900p at 30fps handheld and 1080p at 30fps docked, with DLSS upscaling in both modes. No 60fps option has been announced. The reveal trailer ran about two minutes and showed roughly twenty seconds of gameplay, which set off immediate questions. Any time a game of this scale lands on Switch 2, there will be questions about how it runs. Showing only twenty seconds of gameplay doesn’t ease those concerns.Skyrim's Switch 2 port launched rough before patches smoothed it, and the remaster still struggles on high-end PCs more than a year after release. The counterargument is Fallout 4, which had a similar start on the hardware and was eventually fixed.Feature parity is not in question. The sprint mechanic, rebuilt UI and streamlined leveling all carry over, since the remaster runs Unreal Engine 5 for visuals while the original Gamebryo engine still handles physics, combat and AI.Once the public has this at scale, we’ll know more and then we’ll be able to determine how well the game has ported over. In any case, having Oblivion on Switch 2 on any level is a win for Nintendo fans.
