INSETA has instigated an independent investigation into governance matters linked to allegations involving R443 million in student funding.
The Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (INSETA) has confirmed that an independent investigation is under way into governance matters linked to allegations involving R443 million in student funding but says it will not comment on the issues while the process is under way.
The statement comes days after the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) called for a forensic investigation into allegations that hundreds of millions of rand allocated for learner grants between 2021 and 2025 may have been mismanaged through procurement irregularities and governance failures.
In a stakeholder update issued on Thursday, INSETA said it was aware of the public and stakeholder interest surrounding the matter and remained committed to “the highest standards of governance, accountability, transparency and institutional integrity”.
OUTA's report, citing media reports, alleges that 879 bursary students went unpaid during the first five months of 2025 despite funds reportedly being advanced to the service provider responsible for administering payments.
