New Girl fans rejoice! A revival is officially happening, according to Max Greenfield. Greenfield won fans over with his performance as the meticulous playboy Schmidt on the Fox series, which aired for seven seasons between 2011 and 2018. Since it ended eight years ago, fans have been petitioning for a revival of the Zooey Deschanel-led comedy programme and now, Greenfield has renewed hopes when asked about the possibility of a reunion on The Today Show. “I’m not gonna play the game,” said the actor of his co-star’s more vague responses. “As far as I know, it’s happening.”Recently, the creator of the show, Elizabeth Meriweather, said a potential reunion “would be exciting”. Addressing Meriweather’s comments, Greenfield said: “Liz was very concerned. She texted us, she was like, ‘I said these things in the press.’ And she was like, ‘I don’t know if there’s any more stories to tell.’” However, the actor said that Meriweather was “full of it”. She’s a very talented writer.” As well as New Girl, Meriweather created the ABC sitcoms Single Parents and Bless This Mess. More recently, she was behind the critically acclaimed Dying for Sex, which starred Michelle Williams as a woman with a terminal illness, and The Dropout, in which Amanda Seyfried played the disgraced tech entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes. Questions surrounding a New Girl reunion have been bubbling up for years, with the cast playing into the rumours by, for example, drumming up fake animosity between one another. Previously, Jake Johnson, who played Nick Miller on the show, jokingly blamed Lamorne Morris, who played Winston Bishop, for the delays during his own appearance on The Today Show. I don’t respect what they do, I don’t respect fans, I don’t respect humans, because I am greater than.’”The hit sitcom ran for seven seasons, and followed Deschanel’s Jessica Day, an upbeat and quirky school teacher who moves into a New York City apartment with three men. Following the end of New Girl, Greenfield has starred in various shows and fils, including the CBS sitcom The Neighborhood, and Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted. He also earned acclaim for his performance in Emerald Fennell’s 2020 vengeance thriller Promising Young Woman. In a recent interview with The Independent, Johnson reflected on his time playing the show’s love interest Nick – a role that studio executives asked him to lose weight for. “I think Fox was right! I came in tubby! Who doesn’t love chips and tortillas?” he said.
