I’ve been taking Mounjaro for 10 weeks. Overall, I’ve had no side effects and have lost two stone. I needed to lose this weight after years of growing heavier and heavier. My plan is to keep going until I’m back to a healthy weight.
Mounjaro means the constant food noise has gone – my weakness was unhealthy snacking – and I’m prioritising protein and vegetables in my meals. It doesn’t feel like a drag like dieting has in the past. So far so good! However, there is one hitch: I’m drinking more alcohol.
In the last few months, my drinking has crept up. This wasn’t something I expected. Anecdotally, I’d heard from friends on jabs that their desire to drink had lessened, not improved. However, there was one friend, also on Mounjaro, who shared a different experience that chimed with me. “I need to reward myself with something at the end of the day, so when it’s not chocolate it’s likely to be a glass of wine or a beer,” she told me. I agree.
Initially, I didn’t fancy drinking much of anything. I had to remind myself to stay hydrated. But then I suddenly really really fancied a drink. A glass of wine or two. A cocktail in a tin on a Tuesday night. It was hardly hardcore hedonism, but I could feel it creeping up nonetheless.
