Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Senators on the Appropriations Committee have agreed on a temporary spending bill to prevent a government shutdown at the end of September.
The Senate committee on Sunday unveiled the bipartisan continuing resolution to fund the government through Dec. 11, giving lawmakers roughly an additional 10 weeks to finish negotiating and passing the 12 regular appropriations bills for fiscal year 2027.
"It's good that we were able to produce a much-improved CR to keep the government funded and avert a shutdown that no one wants," Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., vice committee chair, said in a statement.
Murray added online that the bill "blocks a corrupt policy that would allow Trump to hold even more federal grants hostage -- and it closes House Republicans' loophole to pull funding for other agencies to give Border Patrol."
