The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that there was no fire outbreak at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, saying the smoke that caused concern on Sunday was triggered by the discharge of the terminal's FM-200 fire suppression system.
In an update issued on Sunday by its Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, FAAN said preliminary findings from its ongoing investigation showed that the smoke seen inside the terminal was not caused by a fire incident, contrary to initial fears.
Agbebire said the FM-200 fire suppression system was activated for reasons that are yet to be determined, adding that investigations are underway to establish what triggered the system.
"Preliminary findings indicate that there was no fire at the terminal. The smoke observed within the affected area resulted from the discharge of the terminal's FM-200 fire suppression system,” Agbebire stated.
