Whether Hamas will honour the disarmament agreement announced by Donald Trump remains deeply uncertain. Announcing a road map is one thing, but persuading the Islamic fundamentalist terrorist organisation responsible for the October 7 atrocity to surrender its weapons and submit to international verification is another.

Labor’s national platform does not. At its recent national conference, Labor condemned Hamas as a terrorist organisation but omitted an explicit requirement for Hamas to disarm, the Palestinian Authority to reform or for Israel’s security to be guaranteed.
