MANILA, Philippines — Three former supporters of the Abu Sayyaf Group, bearing 18 high-powered firearms, voluntarily surrendered to the Philippine Army in Basilan, facilitated by reservist Brig. Gen. Michael “Mikee” Romero, a former House deputy speaker, and officers of the Association of Reservists and Reservist Administrators of the Philippines (ARRAPI).

The former ASG supporters and the firearms were formally turned over to the 1101st Infantry Brigade under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Frederick Sales, whose unit has strengthened peace and security efforts in Basilan, according to a statement issued by ARRAPI.

The surrendered firearms included six M16 rifles, three M2 carbine rifles, three M1 Garand rifles, two 60mm grenade launchers, and four .45-caliber pistols.
