The census data collection work under way in Thoothukudi Corporation limits on Saturday.

A total of 646 field enumerators and 97 supervisors have been deployed for census work in Thoothukudi Corporation, while 2,224 field enumerators and 371 supervisors have been deployed across the rest of the district.As part of the first phase of the 2027 census, the self-enumeration process was conducted from July 17 to 31. Following this, house listing and housing census is being carried out digitally throughout the district from August 1 to 30.The exercise began across the district on Saturday. In Thoothukudi Corporation limits, work to assign unique identification numbers to every house by writing them on the buildings and preparing maps for the enumeration blocks has started. It will continue until Monday (August 3).From August 4, field enumerators and supervisors will visit every household to collect detailed information required for the census till August 30.According to a press release issued by the district administration, census officials appointed by the district administration will visit the dwellings carrying official identity cards. Using a mobile application, they will collect information on housing conditions and basic amenities. There are 34 questions.Those who have completed the self enumeration should provide their 12-digit registration number to the census officials during their visit.Collector Vishu Mahajan has said that all information provided by the public will be kept confidential as required by the law.
