Andhra Pradesh and Australia have entered a new phase of strategic cooperation with the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering clean energy, advanced manufacturing, inclusive education, student mental health and skill development. The partnerships reinforce the growing collaboration between India and Australia in education, research, innovation and workforce development.The MoUs were signed on Saturday at Undavalli in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh and Australia’s Assistant Minister for International Education and Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs, The Hon. Julian Hill MP.The partnerships are a direct outcome of Minister Nara Lokesh’s recent official visit to Australia, where he held extensive discussions with leading universities, research institutions, industry leaders and government representatives. During the visit, Minister Lokesh invited Australian institutions to partner with Andhra Pradesh and showcased the state’s emerging opportunities, progressive policy framework and investor-friendly ecosystem. The positive response received during those engagements has now culminated in four strategic collaborations spanning education, research, innovation and workforce development.The Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET), Visakhapatnam, IIT Tirupati and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney have entered into a landmark partnership to establish a Centre of Excellence for Solar Manufacturing at IIT Tirupati.The initiative aims to position Andhra Pradesh as India’s leading hub for solar manufacturing research, innovation, skill development and technology commercialisation.The proposed Centre of Excellence will focus on advanced solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing, solar panel recycling, circular economy practices, industry-driven research, faculty development and specialised training programmes.UNSW will support the design, development and implementation of industry-oriented education and training programmes in solar PV manufacturing and circularity. It will also develop curricula, learning materials, assessment frameworks and training content covering solar cell device physics, solar cell manufacturing, characterisation, reliability engineering, recycling, safety, maintenance, ingot manufacturing and wafering technologies.A second MoU was signed between the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) and Samagra Shiksha, Andhra Pradesh to strengthen inclusive education across the state.The partnership seeks to enhance teachers’ capacity to effectively educate children with autism and other neurodiverse learning needs. It will include specialised training for special educators, evidence-based professional development programmes for mainstream teachers, and the development of teaching resources tailored to the needs of students in Andhra Pradesh.Under the third MoU, the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) and Australia’s Rebound will jointly implement a technology-enabled pilot project to support student mental health and overall well-being across selected higher education institutions in the state.The platform will provide students with confidential access to mental health resources, wellness assessment tools and virtual counselling services while ensuring complete privacy. The pilot programme will be implemented free of cost for participating institutions.The fourth MoU was signed between the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and Australia’s Dynamic Learning Services (DLS) to collaborate in vocational education, workforce development, industry-aligned training and international employment pathways.The partnership aims to enhance employability, facilitate globally recognised professional certifications and strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and industry to create a future-ready workforce.Prior to the MoU signing ceremony, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met the Australian delegation led by The Hon. Julian Hill MP.
