Obi accused the Nigerian government of pursuing "white-elephant" projects instead of fixing Nigeria's deteriorating roads and other existing critical infrastructure.
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu's warning to state governors against embarking on unnecessary news infrastructure projects.
Obi accused the Nigerian government of pursuing "white-elephant" projects instead of fixing Nigeria's deteriorating roads and other existing critical infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 1, 2026, Obi argued that governments at all levels should focus on rehabilitating existing infrastructure before initiating new projects.
The former Anambra State governor insisted that scarce public resources must be channelled toward projects with immediate benefits for Nigerians.
