Samoan discus thrower Alex Rose narrowly missed out on a bronze medal after finishing fourth in the men’s discus throw final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Rose recorded a best throw of 63.32 metres in the final, finishing behind bronze medallist Lawrence Okoye of England, who threw 64.45 metres. Australia’s Matthew Denny won gold with a throw of 67.73 metres, while Jamaica’s Fedrick Dacres claimed silver with 65.10 metres.
Rose, who represented Samoa at the competition, delivered a strong performance but fell just short of a place on the podium in a highly competitive field.
Born in the United States, Rose, 34, has strong Samoan roots through his father, who is from Falealili. He has represented Samoa at three Olympic Games and holds the national record in the men’s discus throw.
Although Rose missed out on a medal in Glasgow, his performance continued to highlight Samoa’s growing presence in international athletics.
