William Zepeda can finally call himself the WBC lightweight world champion. One year after his unsuccessful title challenge against Shakur Stevenson, Zepeda returned to compete for the same belt he failed to secure in his first professional loss. The Mexican once again found himself as the underdog to Lamont Roach Jr., but the 30-year-old completed his redemption arc with as resounding a win as possible. Now back in the win column, Zepeda reaches the top of the hill while improving to 34-1 in his professional career. 'El Camaron' looked refreshed and like a brand new fighter after his year away from the ring.William Zepeda puts on masterclass against Lamont Roach Jr.Everybody in the arena new that Zepeda would get off to a strong start against Roach. The Mexican only fights at one speed, and Roach tends to take his time kicking into second gear while he gauges the range and timing of his opponent. However, many expected Roach to download the data and slowly build his way back into the fight, as he did in his most recent outing against Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz. Instead, 'The Reaper' never got a chance to get a proper read on Zepeda, who remained in his face the entire fight and would not stop throwing punches.By the end of the fight, Zepeda out-threw Roach 884-591 and outlanded him 218-153, according to Compubox. Roach had his moments, but Zepeda was never deterred and broke Roach down piece by piece.William Zepeda IS LIKE THAT 🔥🏆#TheFight | #RoachZepeda | Live Now on DAZN and TNT ▪️ pic.twitter.com/CWRbDm04Pn— DAZN Boxing (@DAZNBoxing) August 2, 2026Zepeda held back tears as he received the belt and took the microphone after his victory.
