Sen.

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) renewed his call for a federal wealth tax, arguing that taxing the nation's richest Americans would help finance sweeping social programs aimed at supporting working families.

Sanders' Wealth Tax Proposal On Saturday, in a post on X, Sanders said the billionaire class should contribute more amid growing economic inequality and rising costs for working families.

"THE BILLIONAIRES MUST PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES," he wrote.

He argued that "working families are struggling to afford health care, housing, groceries and other basic necessities." His proposal would impose a 5% annual tax on the wealth of fewer than 1,000 U.S. billionaires, which Sanders said could raise more than $4.4 trillion in new revenue.
