US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced agreement to hold off a planned military attack on Iran after Tehran, along with other Middle Eastern countries, requested a pause, claiming that the broad parameters of a potential pact had been reached. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States was "locked and loaded" and prepared to launch military action against Iran "at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II."He added that Iran and other countries in the region had urged Washington to delay the attack as negotiations gained momentum."This would include the immediate, complete, and total opening of the Hormuz Strait, and an end to Iran's nuclear threat," Trump wrote, outlining what he said were the key elements of the proposed agreement. "Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the world and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a deal," he added. The US President also said Israel had joined the United States in supporting the pause in military action while diplomatic efforts continue."The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment. Get to work, everybody, and get it done," he wrote. The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following months of military strikes, including disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and repeated threats of further escalation.
