On Friday night at the Balmoral Convention Centre on Victoria Island, Lagos, Nollywood’s Charles Okocha was declared the winner of the highly anticipated celebrity boxing rematch after street-pop star, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, stormed out of the ring in the opening round and refused to return.
The bout, billed as “Unfinished Business” after Portable’s controversial 2023 victory, started with fireworks. Punches flew, then the gloves came off literally and figuratively. What was supposed to be boxing quickly turned into a full-blown wrestling match as Portable clinched Okocha and dragged him to the canvas. Referee and security had to dive in to separate the pair amid the scramble.
Once pulled apart, Portable climbed out of the ring and left. Officials had no choice; he was disqualified for abandoning the fight. Okocha, fists raised and grinning, took the win by default, sweet payback after nearly three years of waiting. But the drama didn’t end there.
Hours later, Portable hit Instagram to explain his exit, flashing what he claimed were injuries he sustained during the fight. He accused Okocha of biting him during the bout and choking his neck, insisting the fight had turned into a street brawl instead of a celebrity boxing match. “He bit me, that’s why I said I’m not fighting again. I’m big! I’m bigger than the money! I’m a star!” he declared, adding that he had already landed his promised heavy shots and wanted no more of it.
