Abdul Hai Sarker has recently been re-elected as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Dhaka Bank PLC for a further term of two years.Sarker completed his post-graduation from the University of Dhaka in 1970. Following his academic journey, he ventured into international trade and business, establishing himself as one of the country’s distinguished industrialists.Through his leadership, entrepreneurial acumen, and dedication, he built the Purbani Group into one of Bangladesh’s leading business conglomerates, according to a press release.Sarker is the founder chairman of Dhaka Bank PLC and chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB). He also served as a director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).He was the former chairman of the Board of Trustees of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). He also served as the president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) for four consecutive terms.In addition, he is a founder member of the Board of Trustees of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) and previously served as an associate director of the International Cotton Association, Liverpool, United Kingdom.Beyond his achievements in business, Sarker has made contributions to social welfare and community development. His dedication to the betterment of society has earned him recognition and accolades from numerous organisations.In acknowledgment of his contributions to trade and industry, the government of Bangladesh has also conferred upon him the Commercially Important Person (CIP) status.
