Maruti Suzuki is betting on fresh manufacturing capacity, strong demand for CNG vehicles and a revival in entry-level cars to sustain growth after clocking its highest-ever monthly sales in July. The country's largest carmaker crossed the 2 lakh monthly sales mark, selling 2,00,123 units in July, a milestone that only two other automotive brands globally have achieved in their home markets, according to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer – Marketing & Sales."We are not competing with anyone; we are competing with ourselves and trying to improve our benchmark month after month," Banerjee said, highlighting that the company has set successive monthly sales records despite production disruptions in June. The company expects recently commissioned plants at Hansalpur and Kharkhoda to help ease supply constraints over the next three to four months, enabling it to meet festive season demand. Banerjee said the new facilities will boost production of SUVs and electric vehicles while maintaining manufacturing flexibility across multiple models.Maruti's July performance was driven by broad-based demand across segments. Small cars grew 63 per cent, while SUV volumes rose 48 per cent. The company also recorded its highest-ever monthly CNG sales at nearly 83,000 units, reflecting growing consumer preference for fuel-efficient vehicles amid elevated fuel prices.Banerjee said the newly launched Brezza has received an encouraging response, attracting around 2,000 bookings a day across its three powertrain options. The company currently has 1.6 lakh pending bookings, with production teams working round the clock to reduce waiting periods. On the industry outlook, Banerjee said three key tailwinds—GST changes, lower repo rates and income tax relief for entry-level buyers—continue to support demand. He added that Maruti has offset higher fuel prices through an expanded CNG portfolio, with CNG sales growing around 50 per cent.He also estimated the passenger vehicle industry grew to 4.65-4.7 lakh units in July from around 3.5 lakh units a year earlier, signalling healthy demand ahead of the festive season.Published on August 1, 2026
