Viewers have been left saying the same thing after binging the comedian's latest series.17:04, 01 Aug 2026BBC viewers have been left saying the same thing after watching Diane Morgan’s comedy Ann Droid.‌The series follows the Cunk on Earth star as Linda, a social humanoid robot, who forms an unlikely friendship with Sue, played by Sue Johnston. With an increase in AI across society, the six-part show was left asking: “What is replaceable and what is not?”‌Linda was created to keep elderly people company and monitor their health, with Sue’s son Michael (Paul Ready) introducing the humanoid robot to her after the death of her husband David and his decision to move out and attempt to fix his marriage once again.‌With the intention of helping her live independently, Linda was brought in to keep Sue company and monitor her health, but ended up being her worst nightmare.The BBC synopsis goes on to tease: “ An overly attentive, socially inept pain in the a***. But she soon works out she can use the droid to her benefit in settling scores and doing the things her son never gets round to.‌“What develops is a buddy comedy between an older woman and her robot who isn’t quite as advanced socially as she is technically.”Ann Droid premiered last month to mixed reviews, but several fans have changed their minds since binging it all, and are now begging for a second season. One person simplysaid: “#ANNDROID: need series 2 asap.”‌Another wrote: “Have now watched every episode of Ann Droid on BBC iPlayer and can thoroughly recommend it. It deals with the effects of loneliness and old age beautifully and in a funny way. Reminded me of sitcoms like Dinnerladies and Mum - I hope there is series 2.”Someone else commented: “That last episode of Ann Droid is heartbreaking. She said: "That sort of accidentally happened. The more we wrote the story and realised it was about grief and looking after elderly parents it started to become more poignant.“And then when Sue was doing it, it started to have heart, which was incredible because that's not what we set out to do.
