The Indian pugilist produced another dominant performance, outclassing the home favourite to secure the gold and hand India its third boxing title of the day.Who is Sakshi Chaudhary?In Haryana's boxing hub of Bhiwani, countless champions have emerged from crowded training rings to make their mark on the international stage. Sakshi Chaudhary, a product of the renowned Bhiwani Boxing Club, has followed a similar path, overcoming setbacks to become one of India's brightest boxing prospects.The 25-year-old's career was interrupted by shoulder injuries that forced her to miss the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Four years later, she finally earned her opportunity to compete on one of the biggest stages, entering the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as one of India's strongest medal contenders.Competing in the women's 51kg category, Sakshi began her campaign against Botswana's Lethabo Modukanele on July 27, determined to make up for the opportunities she had previously lost.Hailing from Dhanana village in Haryana, Sakshi comes from a humble background. Her father is a farmer and her mother a homemaker. She honed her skills under legendary coach Jagdish Singh at the Bhiwani Boxing Club before later joining the Army, where she continued to develop as an elite boxer.Her journey to Glasgow required a major sacrifice. Originally a 54kg boxer, Sakshi dropped to the 51kg division after Preeti Pawar secured India's place in the 54kg category by winning gold at the Asian Championships. She lost nearly three kilograms in just three weeks and justified the decision by defeating Jyoti Gulia, former world champion Nikhat Zareen and reigning world champion Minakshi Hooda during the selection trials at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, in May.The move to a lower weight class also played to her strengths.
