The Western Ghats-Netravathi Conservation and Research Forum said on Saturday that it had launched a mass signature campaign against the Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Supply Project.Speaking to reporters at the Mangaluru Press Club, Aditya, a representative of the forum, said the government was proceeding with the project despite an Indian Institute of Science report stating that its water yield would be insufficient to meet the drinking water needs of the parched regions. Through the campaign, the forum aims to create awareness among youth about the potential threat the project poses to the ecologically sensitive Western Ghats.Following the campaign, an open letter will be mailed on August 15 to all elected representatives from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts, Mr. Aditya said.
