The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force and Moghalpura police arrested a 27-year-old cab driver for allegedly cheating more than 50 people by issuing forged allotment orders for double bedroom flats under the Telangana government’s 2-BHK Dignity Housing Scheme.The accused was identified as Syed Salman, a resident of Salala at Barkas, Chandrayangutta. Police seized 52 forged allotment documents and a mobile phone from his possession.According to the police, Salman studied till SSC before dropping out due to financial difficulties. He later worked at MeeSeva centres and as a helper at a private school at Kishanbagh, where he came into contact with school in-charge, Asma Sultana.Police said that Salman falsely claimed that he had influential contacts in the Collector’s office who could secure allotment of 2-BHK houses under the government’s housing scheme. Believing his claims, Asma Sultana and her family members allegedly paid him ₹1.5 lakh on different occasions. He also collected copies of their Aadhaar cards and passport-sized photographs, claiming they were required to process the applications.Salman subsequently handed over fake and forged allotment orders to the victims, making them believe the flats had been sanctioned. Police said he used the same modus operandi to cheat more than 50 others and collected several lakhs of rupees before allegedly spending the money on personal expenses.The accused was apprehended by the Task Force in coordination with Moghalpura police.
