Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis watches from the touchline.

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis insists her side still have every reason to believe they can reach the quarter-finals of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations despite being left with a daunting final hurdle after their dramatic 2-2 draw against Ivory Coast.

South Africa showed tremendous character to recover from two goals down, with captain Thembi Kgatlana igniting the comeback with a stunning strike before second-half substitute Hildah Magaia netted a dramatic late equaliser to rescue a crucial point.

The result leaves Banyana bottom of Group B on one point after two matches, behind leaders Ivory Coast (four points), while Tanzania and Burkina Faso are tied on three points.

It means Ellis’ side must beat Burkina Faso in their final group match to stand any chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
