The Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi, handed over its 101st free house to a second-year pre-university student, Amulya Kharvi, on Friday under its initiative to build free houses for students from economically weaker sections.The house, built at Gangolli in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district, has been named ‘Nandana’ and constructed at a cost of ₹7 lakh.The house was sponsored by P. Gokulnath Prabhu of Mangaluru in memory of his friend V. Nandana Kamath.It was the third house sponsored by Mr. Prabhu for students.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prabhu said the Kalaranga ensured every rupee donated reached beneficiaries without wastage. He lauded the organisation's social service activities.Byndoor MLA Gururaj Ghantihole also spoke.The Kalaranga launched the free housing project for meritorious students from economically weaker sections in 2012.
